The new Troop 75 Summer Newsletter is now online. As always you can find the newsletters on the tab at the top-right corner of our troop website. We have a busy summer planned with trips to Camp Hansen, Lewis and Clark, Philmont, Kansas Sea Base, Omaha Zoo and Manko Lake.

May Campout

Troop 75 participated in our May camp out last weekend. We launched rockets for the space exploration merit badge and did CPR training there. We were pleased to have several webelos join us for this campout. There was some rain on Friday night, but the weather was great on Saturday. We ended with a nature hike with our scoutmaster.

April 28th Update

Monday’s meeting is Campout Planning and Merit Badge Night
• We will also hold Boards of Review for the next rank.

Saturday, May 5th, Two Service Projects –
• Jacob Steward will be conducting his Eagle project
• Help with CASA Cycle Fund Raiser – We will man a refreshment stop for the bikers participating in the event.
• Signup sheets for these two events will be at Monday’s Meeting.

Monday, May 7th – Spring Court of Honor
• Will be held in the sanctuary of the main church building starting at 7 PM.
• Refreshments will be served after the Court of Honor.
• Parents and family members are strongly encouraged to attend.

May Campout – May 11-13
• We will camp at Carnahan Campground.
o We will leave from the Activity Center Friday at 5:30 PM and return Sunday morning at 11:30 AM.
• The Program will be completing the Space Exploration Merit Badge.
o Bring the rockets you assembled and we will launch them.
 We will give away a t-shirt for the best paint job and the rocket that lands closest to a flag.
• We will also be offering American Heart Association CPR certification- Be Prepared to Save a Life! Parents can attend as well.
o This is a 2 year certification that qualifies a scout to save a life.
o The cost is $20 and will include the book and certification card. This is normally a $75 course.
o Sign up at Monday’s Meeting.

Camporee Cancelled

We were just notified by the Cornado Council office that they have cancelled this weekends camporee due to the high probability of severe weather. They stated they will try to reschedule it in the coming weeks.

April 7th Update

Monday’s Meeting will be campout planning, a Board of Review and we will be hosting Webelos.

Friday, April 13th District Camporee – Cost will be a $10 District fee plus gas/food.
- Scouts will be able to earn their BSA Physical Fitness Award.
o Doctors will be on hand to complete part B of the BSA Medical Health Form. This will save $$$ and won’t require you to see your doctor in order to have the form ready for summer camp. Parents must complete parts A and B and provide it to the troop prior to the camporee.
- We will leave from the Activity center on Friday afternoon at 5:30 and return at 11:30 AM on Sunday morning. Make sure you eat dinner on Friday evening before arriving at the Activity Center.

Sign up for Troop Leadership positions – We will hold leadership elections at the April 23td meeting. We will have a signup sheet at Monday’s meeting for you list the positions you are interested in.

March 29th Update

Troop Swim, Sunday, April 1st, departing at 1:30 PM – We will hold a troop swim at Fort Riley. Bring you swim suits and towels as we will change in the locker room at the pool. Scouts can conduct their swim tests for summer camp, complete requirements toward rank and merit badges and just have fun. We will leave from the Activity Center at 1:30 PM and return at 5:00 PM. Cost will be $4 and snacks will be served before returning to Manhattan.

Monday’s Meeting, April 2nd, 7 PM – We will to work on #5&6 of Pioneering Merit Badge.

Scouts learn about Robotics at K-State

Six scouts from Troop 75 took part in a fun and educational day at Kansas State University on Saturday March 3rd working on the Robotics Merit Badge. 2 Graduate students from the Computing and Information Sciences department helped our scouts to build and program “LEGO Mindstorms” robots. The scouts practiced programming their robots to maneuver through several obstacles and challenges. The robots had to use a color sensor to find their position and then move appropriately to complete a given task. Many thanks to K-State’s CIS department for this wonderful opportunity.

March 2nd Update

Tomorrow, Sat, March 3rd – Scouting for Food: We will be working with Pack 75 in this year’s Scouting for Food drive. We have the area of Manhattan near Cico Park.

• Drop Off Bags March 3rd – On Saturday, March 3th, we will deliver the bags. We will meet at the Activity Center at 9:00 AM and plan to return to the Activity Center by 11:00 AM. We will call for picking up your scouts if we finish early. Bring a stapler.

Robotics Merit Badge, Sat, March 3rd from 9 AM to 3 PM – We will meet at Nichols Hall on the KSU campus. Enter by the drive and we will meet on the first floor. Parents are invited to arrive at 2:30 PM and can see the results of the scouts’ efforts.

Monday’s Meeting – We will have campout planning and work on Space Exploration Merit Badge. I have attached a permission slip for you to fill out.

Friday, March 9th – Campout: Our March campout will have the Wilderness Survival Theme and will be held at the Manuel farm. We will leave from the Activity Center at 5:30 PM on Friday and return at 11:30 AM at the Beauty School parking lot, just to the east of the Activity Center.

• Wilderness Survival Kits: This spring new scouts will make a small survival kit. This is a serious kit and will contain many sharp items, i.e., fish hooks, needles, blades. This kit must be kept safe and away from little brothers and sisters. We will discuss this with the troop, but parents need to be aware as well.

The theme for the next meeting is Merit Badge Night Next Monday, February 28

New Scout Parents Orientation, Monday, February 28, 7 PM – For those scouts crossing over into Troop 75. We will be holding a seminar to acquaint you with the policies and procedures of our troop. Our “Trail Blazers” (i.e. newly crossed over scouts) will start working on their Scout rank.

The next Campout will be held March 9-11 and its theme is Wilderness Survival.

We will also have signup for the Lewis and Clark Summer Camp. If you sign up before March 1^st, the camp will provide a $20 early bird discount.
